First Look or Aisle Reveal? Which Is Right for Your Wedding?

There is something incredibly special about seeing your partner for the first time on your wedding day.

For some couples, that moment happens when one of them walks down the aisle.

For others, it happens privately before the ceremony.

Neither is right.

Neither is wrong.

It's simply about what feels right for you.

What Is a First Look?

A first look is a private moment where the couple sees each other before the ceremony.

Usually, one person waits while the other approaches.

They turn around.

And that's it.

You see each other for the first time on your wedding day.

Without dozens — or hundreds — of people watching.

Why Do Couples Choose a First Look?

There are several reasons.

It Can Help Calm the Nerves

Weddings can be overwhelming.

Seeing the person you're about to marry can instantly make the day feel real.

For some couples, that private moment provides a wonderful opportunity to breathe and reconnect.

You Can Have More Time Together

Because you've already seen each other, you can potentially take some photographs before the ceremony.

That may give you more time to enjoy your reception afterwards.

It's Private

Not everyone wants their first look to happen in front of a room full of people.

A first look can be an incredibly intimate moment shared between the two of you.

Why Choose the Traditional Aisle Reveal?

There is also something magical about waiting.

You're standing at the front.

The music starts.

Everyone turns.

And then you see each other.

For many couples, that's exactly how they've imagined the moment since they were kids.

And if that's what you've always wanted, don't change it because someone tells you a first look is better.

There Is No Correct Answer

This is your wedding.

If the traditional aisle reveal gives you butterflies just thinking about it, do that.

If the idea of seeing each other privately sounds perfect, choose a first look.

And if you're not sure?

Talk to your photographer.

They can explain how either option might affect the rest of your day.

What About the Photography?

From a photography perspective, both options can produce beautiful images.

A first look gives us an opportunity to capture a private reaction.

The traditional aisle reveal gives us the atmosphere and emotion of the ceremony.

Neither automatically produces better photographs.

The emotion comes from you, not the schedule.

Don't Let Wedding Trends Decide Your Wedding

Wedding trends come and go.

First looks.

Champagne towers.

Sparkler exits.

Unplugged ceremonies.

Some will suit you.

Some won't.

You don't need to include something simply because you've seen it on Instagram.

Choose the things that make sense for you as a couple.

After all, it's not a styled shoot.

It's your wedding day.
